We're currently in the process of getting our products approved before manufacturing and sales begin
As the world struggles to deal with the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the need for single-use plastic in the medical industry has surged. Bio-hazardous waste treatment plants around the world have reached maximum capacity. The medical waste that doesn't make the cut ends up in places of unspeakable potential for contamination. The current pandemic has taught the medical industry a vital lesson about its preparedness for such disastrous times. We were simply not ready for it, and we are definitely not ready for another. Similarly, there is also an extreme shortage of PPE in medical facilities right now. Doctors are wearing homemade masks, instead of N95 respirators. Some hospitals, even in wealthy nations like the United States, have resorted to reusing PPE, which poses a number of threats of cross contamination. ReefCycle proposes a few devices that can help.

Recyclo-Zone

Ozone Treatment Chamber w/ Shredder and Mini-Crisis Pod

Ozone treatment is the superior method for bio-hazardous medical waste sterilization. After sterilization, the waste can be handled as MSW, reducing the stress on Bio-Hazardous Medical Waste Treatment Plants. Unlike auto-claving or incineration, which put workers near unsafe levels of heat and consume an enormous amount of energy, ozone treatment is a zero emissions, low energy alternative. The difference between other ozone treatment devices in the market and ours is that ours also comes with a mini-Crisis Pod. A Crisis Pod is a chamber where reusable PPE can be treated with combinations of UV Germicidal Irradiation, dry heat treatment, wet heat treatment, chemical disinfection, ozone treatment, and some other gas sterilization treatments. Additional full-sized Crisis Pods can be bought or rented, and the Recyclo-Zone can power up to three additional Crisis Pods at once. Check out the video above for a complete description of the Recyclo-Zone or Click here for the video transcript.

Dimensions: 15x11x13ft in LxWxH

PPE Decontamination Chambers

Reusing PPE is considered THE LAST RESORT in crisis situations by the CDC and the WHO, and somehow the world is already there. The CDC has called for an immediate need to research sterilization techniques for reusing N95 respirators, surgical masks, etc. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 PPE shortage alone, many researches have published articles about potential sterilization protocols and the relevant experimental data. The most promising techniques for decontaminating PPE that have had high success rates and are being deployed in many countries already include UVGI, heat treatment, gas treatment, and chemical disinfection. In many places where there are no proper protocols or infrastructures in place for decontaminating PPE, the hospitals are forced to throw it all in the waste bins, even though they know that the only other solution is to wear improvised PPE. The Crisis Pod is a chamber that can be connected to the Recyclo-Zone and can provide combinations of the aforementioned treatments to the equipment you load them with. COVID-19 has taught us that we are not ready for something like this again, and Crisis Pods are a step closer to being ready. The collateral benefit of reusing PPE in crisis situations is that it also released some pressure from the overworked RMW Treatment Facilities, which ultimately results in less marine pollution. Check out the video at the top of the page for a complete description of the Crisis Pods or Click here for the video transcript.

A Cheaper Alternative

Currently, the purchase or the renting of the Recyclo-Zone is necessary for the decontamination of PPE, because the Recyclo-Zone acts as the mother ship for the Crisis Pods to be docked at for the sorting of PPE, the loading of PPE, and as a water, chemical, gas, and electricity source. The Pods do have the ability to be separated from the Recyclo-Zone and be connected to another electrical outlet, however this can only be done after the loading process. We recognize that the hospitals most in need of PPE probably won't have the Recyclo-Zone in their budgets, which is why we are working on a device that simply consists of a sorting chamber attached to a mini-Crisis Pod. An additional two full-sized Crisis Pods can be attached to the device when necessary. Our priority is accessibility, so all three of our products can either be purchased or rented.
